VIT is in the
city of Melbourne , in the south - eastern state of Victoria, Australia.
Am I an international student?
You are an international student if you are not an Australian or New Zealand citizen
or an Australian permanent resident. International students pay full program fees
and require an Australian Government student visa for programs longer than three
months.
What programs are available to international students?
You can study: Certificate II, III, IV and diplomas .
What are the entry requirements?
For International Students:
Diploma Courses: There are no Specific entry requirements for this
qualification. The training package does suggest entry competencies but these competencies
are suggested only and are not pre-requisites.
It is however reasonable to expect that prior to commencing this training program,
learners should have completed one of the following:
Certificate II, III or IV programs
A and O levels
10+2 Or an equivalent
Will Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) or Prior Learning
(RPL) be used to assess my previous or current work?
Yes.
Can I gain credits for work I've already done or a project
I've already completed?
Yes. Examples of this work or projects can be included in the Portfolio of Evidence.
If you have undergone previous training and you feel you have the underpinning understanding
and knowledge and therefore do not require the training, you can apply for RCC/RPL
in order to gain the award.
How do I apply for RCC/RPL?
Fill in and submit the RCC/RPL Application Form. Contact details for College office
are available on this website.
What is the procedure for course enrolment?
Application form and course details sent upon receiving the course
enquiry.
Students fill in the application form and send the supporting documents
(for supporting documents, see the next FAQ).
Documents such Letter of offer and Acceptance Of Place are sent to
the student if the supporting documents are found to be satisfactory.
Student signs the Acceptance of Place document and submits it to VIT.
Along with the Acceptance of Place the student has to send minimum
of one-semester fees. The fee payment details are provided in the letter of offer.
Receipt and Conformation of Enrolment being sent to the student by
VIT.
The student will need to organize for student visa, health cover.
What if my application is not successful?
Often applications are unsuccessful because these requirements are not met. VIT
can help you meet these requirements by advising you on which study levels are appropriate
and which other options will lead you to your preferred career.
Are the courses accredited?
The Certificate II, III, IV and Diploma are accredited by the Australian National
Training Authority. Accreditation was gained through the ACT Accreditaton and Registration
Council and is reciprocated in most states of Australia.
Will I get a nationally recognised qualification?
Yes, the Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma are Australian National Training
Authority awards and are recognized nationally.
How will I be assessed?
Depending upon the subject, each subject consists most of the following:
Class work participation
Assignments
Case studies
Tutorials and
Semester end exams.
You should obtain a minimum of Pass grade ¡±D¡± in all the subjects, to be awarded
the Qualification.
What is an OSHC?
Overseas Student Health Cover
Do I need to have OSHC?
The Australian Government requires that all overseas students must
have OSHC. The OSHC cover must be paid before a student visa can be issued. The
OSHC charges are subject to annual Federal Government reviews.
The fee is to be paid to VIT with the tuition fees.
As a member of OSHC 85% of the government scheduled fees for a private
doctor, pathology and X-rays are paid. Treatment by public hospital doctors and
overnight stay in hospital is also free under OSHC. Certain services such as optical,
dental and pharmaceutical are not covered. Should coverage for these services be
required, the student may take out additional medical insurance. It is recommended
that overseas students subscribe to the Ambulance Service.
What if I do not pay the fees on time? (What is VIT's Fees
and charges policy)?
All fees and charges are required to be pre-paid.
You are required to pay the fees and any other charges (like re-examination fee
or repeat semester) by due date as indicated in the invoice. Late payment will attract
a penalty of AU $25.00 per day for each day beyond the due date in addition to the
invoice amount. If the payment is not received with in 15 days from the due date
VIT will cancel your enrolment and academic transcripts will be given on clearing
the dues. If you are a domestic student, credit management action will be initiated
which may involve additional expenses to you. If you are an international student,
DIMIA will be informed of cancellation of your enrolment at VIT, which may result
in cancellation of your student visa by DIMIA.
When am I eligible to apply for refund in case the circumstances
change? (What is VIT's refund policy?)
By accepting the offer of a place at Victorian Institute Of Information
Technology (VIT), a student is entering into an agreement that is stipulated in
the Letter of Offer . Payment of tuition fees in full or in part indicates
that such an agreement exists between the student and VIT. Should circumstances
change after accepting an offer, fees will only be refunded in accordance with the
Refund Policy below.
Where Australian Government authorities refuse to grant a visa: VIT
will refund all fees, less $500 administration charges. In this event, you will
need to submit to VIT the original letter of refusal.
Where written notice of withdrawal is received by VIT 28 days before
the commencement date of the course, VIT will refund all fees less 25% of the first
semester's fee plus any representation or processing fee.
Where a student pays first two semester fees in advance and written
notice is received 28 days before the scheduled commencement of the second semester,
75% of their second semester fee will be refunded.
Where VIT receives a written notice of withdrawal less than 28 days
before the commencement date of the course, VIT will refund all fees less tuition
fees for the first semester.
The application fee is not refundable.
How Do I apply for a refund?
An application for a refund must be made to the Manager, and must include
the name of the student and the reason for withdrawal. Refunds will be made within
30 working days of receipt of the refund application.
Refunds will only be processed once a student has returned to their
home country and the Institute is satisfied that his/her student visa has been cancelled.
No refund will be made whilst the student is in Australia.
What means are available to me to obtain help and assistance?
Assistance is available on-line, via telephone or face-to-face by visiting one of
the College offices.
What is the Goods and Services Tax (GST)?
A goods and services tax (GST) was introduced on 1 July 2000 as part of the Australian
Federal Government's new tax system. Under the new tax most goods and services are
subject to a 10% GST.
Do I pay GST on my training?
Award training:
No - The College is a Registered Training Organization and our Award courses
(Certificate IV in Project management, Diploma) are exempt from GST.
Non Award Training:
Yes - GST is payable on non-award training and also on preparation for
customized training.
Can I work during my studies?
Yes.
Is there a limitation on how much I can work?
For International Students:
Yes, You can work only 20 hrs / week when the course in on and during the holidays
you can work for unlimited hours.
